Week commencing 8th June 2020

Monday

Talk together about some of the things you have done over the past week/weeks during lockdown.  Try to remember some of the things you have done and talk about if you liked them or not.

“This week I (Miss Shaw) went for a big walk and I liked it because it was a nice sunny day and I saw some birds. This week I also practised using my sewing machine to make an apron!”

Phonics

Listening game – follow the link – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiDcUIYncCA

After each sound pause the video, to allow children time to guess what the sound might be. Show them the pictures and let them show/tell you what the sound was that they heard.

Circle Time/Circle Games

Talk about how it feels to be at home and not seeing friends. Talk about different emotions, e.g. happy, sad, worried, scared,

How will you feel when you get to see your friends again?

PE/Dance

Peppa Pig copy game – show the Peppa cards and encourage the children to copy the actions.

Monday - PE or Dance

Tuesday

Communication/Literacy/Maths

Read Jasper’s Beanstalk – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da6lxY_8jmU/

What is Jasper doing in the story? What is he trying to grow? What does he do to make the bean grow? How long did it take the bean to grow?

Phonics

Hide some animals around the room.  Ask the children to find the animals. When they find one, bring it back to you and ask them to make the noise of the animal. Find objects – what noise do they make?

Circle Time/Circle Games

Briefly discuss what is happening in the world at the moment (specifically about coronavirus). What have you been doing to stay safe? Have you been clapping for key workers? Have you made a rainbow? Why do you think people have put pictures of rainbows up? We could make rainbows to decorate the classroom.

PE/Dance

Kids Bop – copy the moves from the children on the screen – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QObE0zvN_E

(Favourites include: Make some noise)

Wednesday

Communication/Literacy/Maths

Counting with beans/seeds.

Lay out an amount of beans/seeds and ask the children to count them. Remember to encourage them to use 1 to 1 correspondence (– saying 1 number name for each object).

When they have counted them all, ask, “How many did you have?”

Repeat with several different amounts to 10 (and beyond if need a challenge).

Phonics

Letter sound ‘m’. This video shows how to pronounce it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh6Ux5D2D84&safe=active Show children some objects/pictures that begin with m. Ask them to name each object and say the sound the word begins with. Model to the children, e.g. m for moon

Moon, monkey, map, mop, mummy, mouse, milk, mushroom.

Can you think of any more words?

Circle Time/Circle Games

Talk about planting beans. Plant a bean/seed – in a plant pot or in a jar with cotton wool. What will happen to the bean? (Hopefully it will grow into a beanstalk – a plant)  How will we look after it? Refer back to Jaspers story. We will need to water it, it needs some sun. Will it grow over night?

PE/Dance

Play Simon Says with different actions.  For example – Simon Says stretch up high, touch your toes, run, jump, hop, skip, etc.

Thursday

Communication/Literacy/Maths

Re-read Jasper’s Beanstalk – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da6lxY_8jmU/  Act out the story as you read it.

Think of actions for each part of the book, and act them out as your read, to help you start to remember the story.

Phonics

Read a rhyming book – Hairy Mclary from Donaldson’s Dairy – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BQH1l5ahm8

As you are reading, emphasise the rhyming words on each page, e.g. Muffin MCLAY like a bundle of HAY. Begin to pause to see if they remember the rhyming pairs and the repetition in the book.

Circle Time/Circle Games

Play Jasper’s Beanstalk pairs. Face all cards upside down. Children can turn two cards at a time to try and find a matching pair. Keep the pair if they are matching.

Thursday - Circle Game

PE/Dance

Kids Bop – copy the moves from the children on the screen –https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QObE0zvN_E

Friday

Similar to Wednesday – lay out amounts of beans for children to count, with 1 to 1 correspondence and saying how many they have.

When they have counted 2 groups, compare these 2 groups. Which group has more and which has less? If they need help understanding this concept, talk about more meaning lots and bigger and less, being a smaller group, not as many.

Phonics

Pass the clap! Adult to clap a simple pattern, e.g. clap, clap and ask the children to copy the pattern. Maker it harder/easier depending on how successfully the children copy the pattern. Can introduce other actions,e.g. clap, tap knee, clap or click click clap, or Tap, tap, clap, clap etc.
