Focus text this week: The Night Pirates.

A resource pack is available from the school office to support your learning at home.

This week our PSHCE focus is staying safe, both physically and emotionally. Discuss the emotions happy, sad, anxious, worried, angry and bored. How do you express these feelings? Can you make a poster to display your discussions?

 

Monday

Handwriting – Our focus this week is lead-in lines – with your child, select a small number of letters to practise forming. Please watch the power point link (click on your chosen letters) and have a go at forming them using your lead-in lines. This will prepare you for writing in Year Two!

Phonics – Make your own flash card. Today we are focusing on the sound sh, like in the word ship. Make a card like the one below but your challenge is to write 5 words that include the sh sound in them. Can you add zips and buttons to your words?

Creative activity – Hide treasure somewhere in your house. The treasure could be anything you like e.g. coins or sweets! Draw a treasure map so someone in your family can follow the map to help them find the treasure! Here is an example of a treasure map to help you.

Outdoor activity – How many two footed jumps can you do in 30 seconds?

Creative activity – Science investigation – Conduct a pirate density investigation. Density is a word we use to describe how much space an object or substance takes up (its volume). What happens to the objects when you put them in the bottle? Find out why this happens with a grown up.

Outdoor activity – Go on a family walk, bike/scooter ride. How long can you stay active for – 10 minutes, 20 minutes 60 minutes? Can you beat your duration from last week?

Creative activity – Pirate hat – Follow the instructions to help you make your own pirate hat. Use crayons, felt pens or paints to decorate your pirate hat!

Creative activity – Today in English, you wrote a message to send to someone in a bottle. This afternoon design the bottle you want the message to go in. You will need a clear empty plastic bottle and felt pens or crayons for this activity. I put my message, shells, sand and gold coins in my bottle. What will you put in your bottle?

Maths – Use the White Rose maths link https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/. Summer Term Week 5 – Lesson 5 Maths challenge –  Only challenges 1 and 2!

Maths fundamentals – practise writing your numbers from 0 – 30 in words. For an extra challenge can you start at 30 and end on 0?

Creative activityCompetition time: Tom has a pirate flag on his boat; the pirate flag has a picture of a skull on it. In our school playground, we have a pirate ship but it has no flag on it! Design a flag for our pirate ship. We will decide which flag is the best one and it will be placed on our school pirate ship! Remember to have symbols on the flag that represent our school.

Outdoor activity – Can you make an obstacle course outside using objects from your house? Get your grown up to complete it! Imagine the pirates are trying to catch you!
