In maths, we’ve learned about numbers up to 50 and how to add and subtract by counting on and backwards. We’ve used number bonds and models to help us double numbers, and practised place value by partitioning numbers into tens and ones, estimating on a number line, and finding one more or less than a given number. | In English, we’ve focused on ‘Castles and Knights’ and ‘Under the Sea’ as our recent writing units. We’ve practised using capital letters, full stops, and writing sentences about story characters, such as writing letters to the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella and creating acrostic poems about sea creatures in Commotion in the Ocean. | In Science, we enjoyed looking at plants and how they grow. We even planted our own cress seeds and most of us tried it once it had grown.
More recently, we have been looking at materials and their properties and have enjoyed going on hunts to see what we can find in our environments. |
Here’s some of our learning so far! |

In Art, we studied artworks by Zaria Forman and Renata Bernal, and we’ve been practising drawing techniques inspired by their styles. We experimented with various mark-making techniques, colours, and media, focusing on neat colouring and observational drawings of plants and flowers. | In RE, we have been discussing who we care for, who cares for us and how we show that we care. We also looked at how and why Christians and Muslims care for others. | In PE, we’ve been improving our ball skills by practising catching, throwing, and controlling the ball both individually and in teams. We’ve had fun challenging each other to catch the most balls and control them around cones, and we’ve used our skills to play games like dodgeball and cricket. |
