Nursery Ants

Welcome to Nursery Ants! – 2 Year Old Nursery

Welcome to Ants, our 2-year-old provision at Crossley Hall Primary School. This is where many of our children begin their journey with us. We provide a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel safe, secure and ready to explore. We understand that starting nursery is a big step for both children and families. Our priority is to build strong relationships and support children to settle confidently into their new environment.

Our Approcach

At this stage, children are developing rapidly in their communication, confidence and understanding of the world. Our approach focuses on:

  • building secure attachments with key adults
  • developing communication and language through interaction
  • supporting children to explore and play independently
  • establishing routines and a sense of security

Learning is play-based and rooted in children’s interests and experiences.

Communication & Language

Developing communication is a key priority in Ants.

We support children to:

  • respond to their name and familiar voices
  • use gestures, sounds and words to communicate
  • build early vocabulary through play
  • engage in songs, rhymes and stories

Adults model language throughout the day, helping children to develop confidence in expressing themselves.

Daily Routines

Routines are an important part of helping children feel secure and confident.

Our day includes:

  • free flow play indoors and outdoors
  • group times with songs and stories
  • snack and mealtimes
  • opportunities for rest and quiet time

These predictable routines help children to understand what is happening next and support their independence.

Outdoor Learning

Children in Ants access the outdoor environment every day.

Outdoors, children can:

  • develop their physical skills
  • explore space and movement
  • investigate natural materials
  • engage in imaginative play

Outdoor learning is an important part of supporting children’s development and wellbeing. Please bring a pair of wellies to school for your child and dress them appropriately for outdoor learning whatever the weather.
